Useful Comforting Remedies if You have the Cold

I'm the type of person that likes to read manuals or directions for any type of situation, most of the time. So wouldn't it be great if there was a HOW-To whenever you get sick with a cold or sore throat? I do. My son who is in preschool, probably gets sick with the cold 40% of the school year. So I thought I would post some useful links and products I thought useful information for the cold.

Some useful products and tips to prevent colds:

1. Clenzology : product by Garden of Life.

2. Anti-bacterial gels like Purell. It's great to carry these around in your purse for times when you can't wash your hands with soap and water.

3. Exercise: believe it or not, those that exercise regularly are less likely to get sick vs those that are sedentary. Too much exercsie though will strain your immune system, so don't overdo it.

4. Washing your hands regularly. The best way is get yourself from being infected and most importantly don't touch your face!

5. Don't be around sick people if possible. I'm a mother, so every now and then if my son gets sick, I am the first one to get exposed.

6. Eat healthy: organic is the way to go..eating your 5-6 servings of fruits and vegetables as well as staying away from sugar or processed foods.

7. Vitamins: getting enough vitamin D, esp. if you live up north during winter time is tough so make sure you make up for your nutritional defincies. I would make sure the vitamins that you purchase are allergen and chemical free. There are lots of companies that are now offering great alternatives. You can also purchase them online if you can't go to a Health Food Store.

8. Loading up on your health drinks that boost your anti-oxidants like Goji , Acai, Mangosteen. Beware of added sugars in juices at the supermarket.

9. Probiotics

When you are sick:

Let's face it, at least once a year you will get a cold or two, but here are some products or items that will help you through it.

1. Runny nose, itchy throat oh no! check out this site for some home remedies.

2. Gargle with Salt water. I love this Himalayan sea salt from www. mercola.com

3. You will need lots of boxes of tissue. I prefer unscented ones, but you can try Puffs Gentle tissues have different ones, lotion, vicks?
4. Drink Warm liquids all through the day.. Ahh so soothing to the throat. I especially love this soup recipe. Beware of canned soups that have high sodium and MSG. Other soups are great too..I love soups with ginger, and chicken stoock or salmon stew with miso. A great tea to drink is one that has no sugars. Deepak choppra offers excellent teas in his site online. I like the Invigorating Tea with ginger and spices.
5. Hopefully all these remedies will lastly resort you to this step. But if you get worse, or get a fever..consult your health practitioner right away! I try to stay away from commercial remedies, and I try to resort to it as my last option. These are..
Throat drops: when you aren't home and can't gargle with salt water or eat a piece of ginger. Look for dye free and organic sugar options. Note: (no.1 remedy doesn't recommend eating sugars)
Cough medicines and pain relievers: Ask your doctor, and don't take more than is prescribed. Again I look for dye free and those with no artificial sweeteners like aspartame or sucralose.

We all do things that, in hindsight, are an over-reaction to something that is really a very trivial event. Laughing at ourselves helps to get rid of the anger and to keep the event in perspective.

Jollibee fried peach mango pie

Hmmm.  I went to Jollibee in Jersey city, NJ to get one of the peach mango pies.  Unfortunately they were out, so I got the banana langka instead. Then I had one of those light bulb moments to make my own Peach mango pie.  Crazy huh?  The important thing was the filling.  The filling would be a little bit hard if the yellow ripe mangoes were out of season.  Luckily Del Monte now sells them in the little plastic cups.  Filling: 1 C of yellow sliced and cubed mangoes, ripe and peaches  or Del Monte cubed mangoes and peaches with syrup 2 T peach jam preserves 1T white sugar In a little saucepan, cook the mangoes in sugar for 1 minute in medium heat until mangoes soften.  Add the peach jam and mix. Simmer for another 1 minutes.   Transfer to a bowl and cool in refrigerator. Crust: Buy the PUFF pastry crust from the supermarket.  Lay out and cut in squares.   Add the mango peach filling.  Top with ...

Mango Cream Pie

For mother's day, a friend of mine gave me 2 yellow mangoes. Mangoes has to be my favorite fruit. My brother shared with me a mango cream pie recipe along with my friend's mother who made it out of mango puree. This recipe is sort of a combination of both. The best mango cream pie has yet to be from Red Ribbon bakery...sweet crust, mangoes and whipped cream. For good results get sweet ripe mangoes for this recipe or add some white sugar to it. If you can't find any good mangoes, you can also try mango puree and just mix it with the cream mixture. Ingredients: 2-3 cups of fresh yellow mangoes, ripe and sweet..cut thinly 1c organic heavy whipping cream 1 small can condensed milk 1/2 c hot water or hot mangoe puree (heated up) 2 sachets of Knox white gelating powder, (2) Pilsbury ready made pie crustor or graham cracker crust, baked according to directions on package 1 tsp vanilla flavoring 1 Tbsp crushed graham cracker crumbs ...
